Written: July 4, 2018 – Day 1 of LateFI.com
There’s nothing more exciting to me than spending more time with my family. These days it seems like the best way for me to do that is on a planned vacation, but why should it be that way? Why did I start this blog?
I’ve been fortunate enough the last few years to get 2 vacations a year. The kids and my wife all go to or work at the same school district and they’re off for a week together for ‘spring break’. I’ve taken advantage of this and used PTO (Paid Time Off) to spend time with them or travel some place. In addition, each summer we tend to go somewhere for ‘vacation’ for a week. Again, I use PTO for a week to spend more time with them but why should it be that way?
I recently switched roles at my work of 21 years and am concerned that, between the position being more time demanding and my boys almost out of high school, these opportunities for time together are fading fast. I’m going to change and it starts today. On this day, I declare my Financial Independence and I want you to join me on my journey to Late FI. I’m NOT looking back. I’m looking to the future. Won’t you join me?
So, where do we start? Introductions are in order. I’ll provide some details under the ‘About’ page when I get to it, but in short I’m 48, live in the United States in the state of Nebraska. I know, I know. That doesn’t tell you much of anything. As I peel the layers of the onion back, more will be revealed over time. For now, I’ll stay anonymous in case I get too snarky for my own good. I’m not here for me, I’m here for you. To share my story, but build a community among anyone interested in Financial Independence and the freedom it affords.
Latefi.com you say? Yep, I guess I’m late to the FIRE or Financial Independence Retire Early party, but wouldn’t you rather arrive a bit late than never? Work until you’re 65? Work until you’re 72? NO THANKS! That’s not for me. So, it’s with LateFI, that we start this journey together. When you think about it, they always say ‘It’s better to be fashionably late, than early.’ 🙂 I want freedom! Don’t you! Well, now that we’re here, whether early, in the middle or late, let’s get to partying. I have the sounds of Wayne and Garth in my head: “Wayne’s World. Wayne’s World. Party Time! Excellent!”
OK, I’m not quite done yet. Some wise blogger out there that shall remain anonymous told me that you should never end a blog post whether on personal finance, financial independence or sharing your favorite tips on how to get the best discounts on buying a big rig RV until it’s at least 500 words long. To accomplish this requirement, I will sarcastically type until I’m there, so here goes, just one more word and I’m done!
